eBook Round Table Discussions

Have you had ebooks on the brain lately? Then join your fellow desksetters for our eBook round table discussions at Prairie Moon in Evanston, IL on Saturday, June 4 from 2 PM – 5 PM.

Check out our Facebook event for the specifics: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=123177467761772

We’ll be discussing licensing issues, physical readers, user experience, and lending models. All you need to bring is yourself and your urge to share information, questions, and ideas on this ever changing topic. Please make sure to register so we can get a good idea of who will be coming and please, spread the word!

Thank You and Save the Date!

We just want to thank every person who contributed to the last book drive for the Kane County Juvenile Justice System.

You can view the rest of the photos on our Facebook page. We were able to collect 250 books for such a great cause and we couldn’t have done it without you! So again, thank you!

Also make sure you save the date of our next event! We are holding eBook round table discussions on the afternoon of Saturday, June 4th. Specific details to come shortly and a registration form/Facebook event will follow!

Chicago Deskset — ILA Pub Crawl

The Chicago Deskset will be hosting one of the four sites for ILA’s “The Hidden Secrets of Streeterville” on September 29 · 8:00pm – 11:00pm

Are you free Wednesday evening? Come hang out with other librarians and the Chicago Deskset at Elephant & Castle at 160 E Huron Avenue from 8PM to 11PM. When you see the red British phone booth you know that you have arrived. Come out and talk about civic librarianship over a pint, or lend your taste buds to the catalogers. We intend on cataloging each of the 16 draft imports. Our professional commitment is so great that it drips off our chins.

Please RSVP on the Facebook event page.

Chicago Deskset — 826 Chicago Fundraiser

Come hang out at the next Chicago Deskset event to raise funds for 826 Chicago!

Date: July 10, 2010 3-5pm.

Location: Goose Island Brewpub, 800 North Clybourn Avenue, Chicago, IL

We are supporting 826 Chicago. 826CHI is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

Please bring $5 (or more!) to donate to the charity. You can make personal checks out to “826CHI” or bring cash! We have a private room (Siebel Hall) with our own cash bar and food can be ordered from the menu!

Also if you have emailed us about volunteering for a committee we will try to get the groups together at some point during the event. And as always, we will have some sort of raffle in exchange for your donations to 826 Chicago.

So come have fun, drink local beer and raise funds for a great local charity! We hope to see you there!

To RSVP please use the Facebook page

A Teaser and a Heartfelt Congratualtions

Hey Chicago Desksetters,

We wanted to take a moment to update everyone.  We are working hard at responding to your suggestions via the survey.  For those that could not make it, don’t worry your voice will be heard as well.  Expect a survey tomorrow via Facebook or here at our blog.

The next event date has been set for Sunday, May 23rd, 2010.  The time is still being worked out as well as the location, but I know this much, it will be in the city and around 6pm.

We have received a lot of praise, publicity and even fanmail.  Your hard work is paying off, and we are making a difference.  So take a moment to reflect on the fact that hundreds of under-served teens will have the ability to learn and escape via the items YOU donated, and they will know that someone somewhere cares about them.

On behalf of the Chicago Deskset Crew,

Anthony Molaro
